What more suitable way to greet the New Year 2022 than developing a positive and clear intention using yoga? The following New Year yoga sequence focuses on opening your heart to new experiences, balancing to support balance in your life, and strengthening your spine for conviction. Move through this New-year yoga sequence upholding these objectives in a sense, and absorb all the benefits that yoga offers! Currently, yoga is one of the most favored fitness training worldwide. One of its appeals is that elders can practice it, and it can improve the overall physical fitness of athletes.

If you want to start practicing yoga in this New Year 2022, here is a quick guide to the basic types of yoga. Most practices are based on ancient postures, and each yoga technique focuses differently. Some yoga styles focus on flexibility, while others strengthen the body. Other types of yoga focus mainly on meditation, (Pranayama) breathing, and relaxation.

Most of the yoga styles adopted in the West were derived from the Hatha Yoga, a general term that guides the physical components of ancient Indian philosophy. The goal of the traditional Hatha Yoga was to acquire a balance between body and mind through physical exercises and ethical discipline, which are represented by a series of asana: postures, breathing, and meditation.

Western culture adopted especially the physical elements of the Hatha Yoga and ignored the moral aspects, usually even the breathing and meditations aspects. Hatha Yoga's yoga styles share the same basic principle that mental balance can be achieved through physical exercises and postures. Each yoga style prefers to concentrate on various aspects.

Ashtanga Yoga:

Ashtanga Yoga focuses on the flow of postures to improve the body's strength, stamina, and flexibility. During an Ashtanga Yoga class, the participants jump from one pose to another. Therefore, this style of yoga is not ideal for newbies. Individuals who are not healthy fit may find it too complex and demanding. However, if you are interested in improving your strength, flexibility, and stamina and you are fit enough to deal with an hour of jumping from one posture to another, Ashtanga Yoga can suit you.

Power Yoga:

Power Yoga is an American development of Ashtanga Yoga that also adopted several elements from other yoga styles. You can find Power Yoga classes mainly in fitness and health clubs. Power Yoga focuses on strengthening the body by performing Hatha Yoga postures for a longer time to improve both physical flexibility and mental focus. Power Yoga can be a good exercise for athletes, people who practice fitness activities, and people who want to tone their bodies.

Bikram Yoga:

A Bikram Yoga class features a series of 26 Hatha Yoga postures practiced in a heated room. It is also known as Hot Yoga. The purpose of the heat is to allow the participants to get into each of the yoga poses more deeply and safely. The heat also helps clean the body from toxins promoting sweating. Bikram Yoga focuses more on the workout of the entire body, including the internal organs, and less on flexibility. Bikram Yoga is not recommended to pregnant women and people who suffer from high blood pressure and heart conditions. Still, it can improve people's physical fitness who recover from injuries.

Iyengar Yoga:

Iyengar focuses on the body's physical alignment and the accurate performance of each posture. Some of the Iyengar Yoga postures are practiced with the assistance of props such as blocks and belts designed to help the participants achieve the most accurate posture and protect their bodies from injuries. Since the flows between poses are not practiced, Iyengar Yoga classes are less intense and suitable for less fit people. Iyengar Yoga improves body strength and flexibility and can fit people of any age and every physical condition.
