How to Grow Ferns Indoors:

  • Moisture

Ferns should be kept in humid conditions as they are fond of moisture. It is the reason why tropical countries are the perfect ones to be growing ferns. You can keep the clay granules and damp pebbles in their pots to offer them the moisture that is required.

  • Light

It would not mean that the ferns do not need light as you can store them near a window getting the subtle morning or late afternoon sunlight as you might have seen them grow inside. Your fern may grow poorly with yellowish fronds if the light indoors is too low.

  • Soil

Ferns grow in the forest soil enriched with leaf mould and decayed vegetable matter as they are known to have tender and delicate roots. You need to ensure that the roots are not waterlogged and the compost is rich enough for the fern. The best is the peat compost or the fibrous peat substitute with lots of sand. Water your fern each day as the soil should never dry out.

  • Fertilizer

Fertilizers are important for the ferns. Use liquid fertilizer every two to four weeks in summer. Just add a few drops with water to miss. Else you might damage the roots as you need to be gentle here.

  • Repotting

Springtime is the best if the roots are filling the pot and you wish to report your fern. You can easily replace the old compost with the new one and cut the fronds that are damaged for healthier growth.

The lady fern is better off being placed in a shaded location, but they can even thrive in partially shaded areas are one thing that you should be noted here. It is a great plant since it can adapt well to a few different kinds of soil. These plants grow quite well, being planted in climatic zones two through the nine as they develop a delicate appearance.
