Does BMW Use Toyota Engines?

Automakers often interchange auto parts for several reasons. The interchangeability makes it easier for those looking for used BMW engines for sale to branch out their requirements to other brands as well.

Sometimes it’s to save money, other times for convenience. Similarly, BMW and Toyota have recently announced their partnership where some BMWs will be using Toyota 2JZ across its entire product line up while Toyota Supra was equipped with a BMW car engine.

Read on to know more about the exchanged engines.

BMW Turbo 3.0-Liter Engine

The 3.0-liter twin-scroll turbo six-cylinder engine produces a power output of 335 HP while

maintaining a torque of 365 LB-FT. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in mere 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.

It’s an award-winning 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that made it to Ward’s top 10 list. It comes with an aluminum crankcase and cylinder head with a new single Twin-scroll turbocharger.

One of the reasons behind the success of this engine is its lightweight which makes it easier to propel forward. It weighs approximately 25% less than those of preceding models, thanks to the integral, compact, steel exhaust manifold and impellers that builds boost pressure more rapidly.

Also, it uses the High Precision Injection technology to supply fuel, which allows injection pressures up to 5,076 psi. The current edition of the M TwinPower Turbo engine also boasts the power of Valvetronic, BMW’s fully variable valve control, and Double VANOS variable camshaft control technology.

It is truly a one-of-a-kind engine that doesn’t’ disappoint in terms of performance. That’s the reason it has been used by other automakers as well to power their cars.

Toyota 2JZ Engine

After lending the powerful turbo to Toyota for Supra, BMW announced that they’ll be using 2JZ in all of their models. The Toyota 2JZ is the definition of strength. It’s bordering on bullet-proof. The engine block is of cast iron, which is partially responsible for its sturdy nature. It allows for great bottom-end rigidity. That’s exactly what you do when you’re blowing a huge boost. It justifies BMW’s interest in this engine.

Why Does BMW Use 2JZ Engine?

Many wonders why BMW would discard its own engines and go with another automaker’s creation. The CEO of BMW, Harald Krüger explained the reason by saying that they’re compiling with public demand. He stated that BMW has been building engines for more than 100 years, and they have spent billions on R&D of engines. But, they’ve now realized what their consumers really want and will be making 2JZ swaps in all of their products going forward.

Conclusion

Interchanging engines and swaps are normal in the automotive world, but BMW and Toyota using each other’s creations is special for it offers customers the best of both worlds. BMW’s speed with Toyota’s strength is as close to perfection as it gets.

So, if you own a BMW and are looking for a used engine for sale with a warranty to swap units, it’s time you start looking for other brands as well, along with conventional used BMW motors to suit your requirement.
